An acquired slide showing Derby Lightweight E79036 in Edinburgh Waverley on 29th October 1966. It had moved to Leith from Norwich earlier in the month, the destination blind has not been changed and display Lowestoft. A GRC&W set is on the right. The KDH Archive.
SC79036 + 79189 pass West Parade North Junction on the Scarborough line at Hull in May 1968. Officially withdrawn (from Leith Central in June 1967), they were in route learning use, possibly based at York. Seen at lunchtime on their return from the coast, these route learners were a regular feature in the Spring months for several years: they originated in West Yorkshire and took men over the route to Brid and Scarborough in preparation for the summer extras to the coastal resorts. E79040 at Mundesley, date unknown, the DMUs were inroduced to the Mundesely branch in April 1956. A more unusual viewpoint, showing end details not normally seen in images - the lettering, distinct exhaust design, waist level jumpers and a water filler pipe for the coolant header tanks mounted in the vestibule ceilings. An accident damaged M79120 being recovered in the sidings south of Lancaster Castle station (looking south) after an accident at Lancaster on 21/05/65. The 7.22am Lancaster-Barrow collided with the 7.32 Morecambe-Lancaster local. The crane is from Lostock Hall MPD, and the photo can also be found in Trans-Pennine Publishing Ltd's book "British Railway's Breakdown Cranes". Bill Warden.

Withdrawn Derby Lightweights at Carlisle Upperby on 15th June 1969. The blue vehicle with the front corner removed (accident or disposal?) is thought to be M79124, the green vehicle on the left is likely M79009 or 79010. Both were cut up there the following month by TW Ward. Keith Long.
