Class 101 Dysart (near Kirkcaldy) with an Edinburgh-Dundee service, April 1972. This was a good vantage point to watch trains with a great view across the Firth of Forth but you can’t stand here now as you’d be in someone’s front garden! The parish church of my dad’s family St Serfs is in the background. Unfortunately for most of the day you are looking east and south into the light and trains are always in shadow. Alistair Ness.
An Edinburgh-Kirkcaldy service formed of a three-car Class 101 DMU heads north from Dalmeny station. It is changing lines, probably for engineering work on the Forth Bridge. Alistair Ness.

A three-car Class 101 DMU at the closed Thornton Junction station in March 1972. Closed on 6 October 1969, two and a half years later not much had changed except for the weeds of course. If you look closely you can see that the footbridge no longer has any steps. 13 year old boys can sometimes be very foolish! But at least I took my camera with me! Alistair Ness.
Class 100 DMBS Sc50342 on Haymarket depot in June 1972. It would remain in green for at least another year and was the final green DMU vehicle in passenger service (not including the later retro versions!). Alistair Ness.
A Class 107 leads a six-car DMU formation into Glasgow Central on 16 October 1971. Alistair Ness.
A three-car Class 101 Met-Camm DMU in Kirkcaldy station in September 1971. With the driver reading his newspaper this is likely a Kirkcaldy-Edinburgh service rather than a Dundee-Edinburgh working. Alistair Ness.
Class 131 parcel unit Sc55013 attached to the rear of a three-car Met-Camm unit at Kirkcaldy in May 1971. You don't often see shots taken looking in this direction. Most people photographed looking north with the bay platform behind the DMU or towards the signal box. My father came from Kirkcaldy so as a wee boy I was always dragged over from Edinburgh on Saturday mornings to see my gran and let-loose to visit the station. I have a full set of signs from here in my railwayana collection - a totem, a cast iron seatback, a directional sign with a left pointing arrow and the signal box name board. Alistair Ness.
