On an unknown date, the driving position of 52104 is photographed at speed, by an enthusiast who boarded the service at Carnforth. 52089, whose cab was occupied by a driver of course, was the leading car in the formation. Daniel Hopkins.

114 DMU

A rather indistinct shot from a passing train of cl.114 nos.53044/54043 at Leamington on 5/7/90. Despite what the platform clock says, the time was ca. 15.50 and the unit may have formed an incoming service from either Hatton or Stratford-upon-Avon. This was during the period of four years or so at the end of the class's life when the remaining units were based at Tyseley (apart from a few which had gone into parcels service). They moved here in 1987 after a thirty-year stint based at Lincoln, their only home up to that point. Leonard Rogers.

Set 117 306 leaves Haymarket station, forming the 16.15 Edinburgh - Cowdenbeath, on 14/2/97. Leonard Rogers.

A scene in Millerhill yard on 29/8/93, showing a line-up of withdrawn coaching stock. On the left is Mk.1 BSK no. 35450 then, in the centre, cl.104 TBS no. 59215. Behind it is cl.104 former TC no. 59153 and then Mk.2a FK no. 13461. The DMU trailers had been long withdrawn - for five-and-a-half years in the case of 59215 and four years for 59153 - and were now awaiting removal to Springburn for scrap. Leonard Rogers.

A view of the DMU sidings at Haymarket on 15/10/89, with 53699 and 59571 of set 120 532 on the left and 59153 (withdrawn) and the end of 107 733 in the centre. Leonard Rogers.

117 DMU

Unit 117 313 shunting in the DMU sidings at Haymarket on 12/6/99. Another couple of these units are visible in the backgound. Within five months these units, Haymarket's last first generation DMU's, would be withdrawn. In the following decade, a large new servicing building for Sprinters would be built on the site of the sidings. Leonard Rogers.

unknown DMU

A view of the DMU sidings at Haymarket on 10/10/93. Two classes of each of first generation (117 and 101) and second generation (158 and 150) units are visible. The class 117 is 117 301 and the second generation units are 158 741 and 150 255. The class 101 in NSE livery is 51226, which at this time was officially withdrawn but would be reinstated the following month. That on the right in blue/grey is probably 51246. Leonard Rogers.

116 DMU

Tyseley DMU set TS553 sits in the platform at Leamington Spa. The vehicles are presumably 53878 (116), 59606 (127) and 55000 (122). Nicholas notes: Leamington had a tendency to run the empty stock 3 car DMU of a Moor St set and the Stratford bubble out onto the up main toward Fenny when a xcountry was due, and then separately use a shunt disc to bring them in behind the express - providing a same platform interchange instead of the subway. This is not allowed any more - Call Ons 'are for joining' and shunts onto occupied passenger trains are somewhat discouraged - except where there's a third rail - despite stairs being easily the worst passenger hazard. In those days, the up bay wasn't signalled for Main move down departures so the bubble had to shuffle across anyway. Nicholas T Smith.
