Barrow in Furness station on 3 September 1975. In the grey morning light, where I had just been decanted from the overnight train from Euston - an LMS design 12-wheel sleeper - hunted abominably on long welded rail, but rode beautifully once we'd turned off the West Coast Main Line on to jointed track at Carnforth.
