A refurbished class 101 unit leaves Sleaford on 5th August 1991 with a service to Lincoln or Doncaster. Unusually for these Regional Railways units, there is no number on the front end, but the two electrification flashes and only one wiper identifies the closest car as 51800, which would be 101654 with 54408. Simon Jones.

Barry's new suit. Away from the mayhem of the Swindon Works 'Scrap a Western' day on 01/05/1976 the rest of the works carried on normally. 50895, still with "Barry" displayed in the destination box is getting an overhaul and a repaint into the bright new colour scheme that was devised by someone who didn't realise that trains got dirty, being a Valleys set it probably got rained on a lot... Geoff Dowling.

117 DMU

A Bristol based based Class 117 unit, B429 (presumably 51367 + 59519 + 51409), is departing from Worcester Shrub Hill station with the 12.02 Great Malvern to Birmingham service on 23 December 1985. In the sky clouds are rapidly gathering which would soon produce a nasty mixture of hail and rain sending the platforms white with ice crystals. Geoff Dowling.

Park Royal class 103 DMBS M50397 is at work on a Walsall to Dudley service seen at Great Bridge North. This was the LNWR station at Great Bridge, the GWR station (Great Bridge South) was situated on the line from Swan Village to Horsleyfield Junction. The background is one of heavy industry with Evered's Works and Cashmore's, a firm that would be responsible for cutting many redundant railway vehicles. In 2010 nothing, apart from an overgrown segment of the station path, was visible. Taken by Peter Shoesmith on 17/05/1963. Geoff Dowling and John Whitehouse Collection.

derby-lightweight DMU

Banbury Merton Street was the archetypal little country terminus, perfectly proportioned and with an overall roof, sadly devoid of glass by the time of Peter's picture in October 1959. The Bletchley bound railcar is one of the Derby single cars either M79900 or 79901, the route will take it to Bletchley via Buckingham and Verney Junction. Image taken by Peter Shoesmith. Geoff Dowling and John Whitehouse Collection.

The little station was situated between Cannock and Bloxwich on the Rugeley Trent Valley to Walsall line. Image taken by Peter Shoesmith. Geoff Dowling and John Whitehouse Collection.

As good as new. Swindon Works may not be building Castles or Westerns on 1 May 1976 but they still had pride in the job. Next to a row of silver painted refurbished Leyland 680 engines Class 116 DMBS 50849 is fully repainted, re-engined, and will soon be back on the network moving the masses. I do hope they remembered to put the drivers seat back! At the time it was allocated to Cricklewood depot, and just to the rear of the footsteps on the nearest bogie can be seen the LT Trip Cock apparatus for working over the widened lines. Geoff Dowling.

Tyseley went a little far with the paint jobs on some of their dmus, TS417 and briefly TS402 were nicknamed "Dusty" because they resembled that singers heavy eye make up.
