It is formed of two three-car sets, rather than the two power car / two centre car / two power car arrangement of the six-car sets on the Edinburgh - Glasgow services. The second vehicle appears to be in a darker green, and only one vehicle carries a coaching crest, possibly an ex-WR vehicle. George Bett.

A Swindon Inter-City 79xxx series DMU after hitting station buffers. The image from an unknown newspaper, the caption read 'Passengers from the crashed train hand in their tickets as they pass the damaged end of the platform'. The undated newspaper clipping is courtesy of Graham Johnston. It is thought to have occurred on 27th March 1967 in Edinburgh Waverley platform 14 and the train was the 07:30 from Glasgow Queen Street, as detail in the comments section by John W. Note how the yellow panel is painted on the side of the route indicator box but the lining isn't, and the set number painted on the lower corner of the yellow panel, these set numbers were introduced in November 1966. A mixed livery Swindon E&G DMU (set 605) approaches Falkirk Grahamston with the 11:30 Glasgow Queen Street - Waverley service on 18 July 1967. At this time there was a half hourly service between the two cities, trains on the hour from each end were fast services via Falkirk High, normally taking 56 minutes. Services on the half hour were stoppers running via Falkirk Grahamston and normally taking 71 minutes. Note the Park Royal railbus in the siding, likely 79971, in between services to Grangemouth.
