(ii) There must be the closest co-operation between builders, operators and contractors, not only in respect of the West Riding trains but for all future schemes. Regular meetings at approximately one month intervals will therefore be held at which C.M.&E.E's, C.&W.E's and M.P.Superintendents will be present (or represented) together with a representative of the Contractors and Mr.E.S.Cox and the Diesel Assistant to the Chief Operating and Motive Power Officer of the B.T.C. For the time bing such meetings will be held at Derby.
(iii) In respect of day to day contacts between the Railways and the Contractors it was agreed that it was in order for the District M.P.Superintendent concerned to deal direct with the Contractor's Field Service Engineer, but he must advise his M.P.Superintendent of any such cases in order that the latter may report appropriately to the C.M.& E.E. concerned. The Contractor will also keep the C.M.& E.E.advised of such incidents.
(iv) Motive Power Superintendents will again supply to C.M.& E.E. and C.&W.E's concerned weekly summaries of availability of diesel trains with notes regarding cases of any train out of service, as was the case when the West Riding trains originally went into traffic.
PART 2.
Mr.Ellis of British Unit Traction Ltd. joined the meeting at this stage and was advised of the decision recorded in Part 1 (i) by which all agreed modifications would be completed as soon as possible on the West Riding Sets, and he was advised that it would be important therefore that all parts required from Manufacturers should be available. It was emphasised that trouble being experienced in keeping cars in service as a result of defects which it had been agreed, some time ago, should be rectified.
It was agreed that Mr.Harrison would prepare a programme for the completion of the modifications on the West Riding Sets and will advise Mr.Ellis of this programme and the parts required from the manufacturers.
The Chairman referred to a recent conversation he and Mr.Harvey had had with Mr.Ellis in respect of the troubles being experienced with the diesel trains. As a result Mr.Ellis had listed, in his letter of 11th instant, a number of points regarding railcar maintenance and design on which clarificaion was required by British United Traction Ltd. Copies of this letter were circulated to all present and consideration was given to the various points raised, the following summarises the decisions and agreements reached.
A. Railcar Service.
(1) Maintenance. As a result of a meeting being held at Derby last March temporary schedules of maintenance were issued with the ultimate intention of preparing a standard Schedule of Examinations of diesel trains when further experience had been gained. Mr Harrison will take the initiative in preparing such a statement and will consult with B.U.T. as may be necessary. The final agreed scheduled which will be on similar lines to M.P.II, will be submitted to the M.E. and M.P. Committees for approval and will thereafter be issued to all Regions through the normal channels.
