(2) Developments. Reference was made to various projects under development by B.U.T. and Mr.Ellis was advised that such projects should be discussed with Officers at the B.T.C.
(3) Liason between British Railways' Workshops and Contractors. Mr.Ellis was advised that the only authorised instructions to manufacturers would come from either the B.T.C. or the C.M.& E.E. or C.& W.E. concerned.
(4) Inspection. Mr.Ellis was advised that any queries relating to the inspection or to the Inspectors requirements should be referred to the Central Materials Inspection Bureau at Derby.
(5) Delivery Schedules. Any system of rationalisation should be discussed with Messrs.Bond and Robson, who will deal with this matter direct with all concerned.
In subsequent discussions Mr.Ellis referred to the accomodation available for the examination and maintenance of the diesel trains in the West Riding and suggested that B.U.T. would welcome the opportunity of setting up a model maintenance depot at Bradford to establish a standard for future schemes. It was, however, pointed out to Mr.Ellis that the agreed policy was for British Railways to undertake their own maintenance in connection with which they were fully capable of meeting requirements. Improved facilities would be available for subsequent schemes. Mr.Ellis made certain criticisms on respect of the West Riding standard of maintenance with particular reference to apparent reticense on the part of the man concerned to take instructions or advice. Mr.Harrison referred to the dirty condition of the underside of these cars particularly around the engines and transmission gear and emphasised the importance of keeping such parts clean. Mr. Harvey undertook to pursue these aspects with the Motive Power Superintendent.
With regard to requirements of spares, Mr.Ellis was advised that a Committee had been established to advise on the poicy in respect of ordering and stocking spares, to be adopted for all Regions of British Railways.
