274.  SERVICING AND MAINTENANCE ARRANGEMENTS.  (Contd.)

Following visits on the 8th March to the depots concerned in the Manchester area scheme, a meeting was held at which the Committee was joined by Messrs.Fiennes, Suddaby, Robb and Knapman, and the undermentioned were discussed :-

(a) Stoke.   Is a desirable centre for a main repair depot but considerable expense would be incurred in converting Cockshute carriage shed for diesels. Agreed that sub-committee re-examine the position at site at Pratt's Sidings on the Leek line, regard to be paid to the scheme being looked into by the C.O.S. for steam working at Stoke.

(b) Reddish.   It was agreed that this shed would be very suitable as a main repair depot and Mr.Larkin will ascertain, as a matter of urgency, the number of units which can be dealt with, and also contact the Mechanical Engineer at Doncaster.

Mr.Fiennes stated that it had originally been decided that 37 units would be required for the Eastern Region section of the scheme but he would further consider this and anticipates that possibly 15 vehicles less may be required.

(c) Longsight Carriage Shed.   Recommendations in report of February 1955 agreed for use as day to day maintenance and fuelling depot.

(d) Macclesfield.   Recomendations in report of February 1955 agreed for use as day to day maintenance and fuelling depot.

The undermentioned depots were not inspected but it was agreed :-

(e) Buxton.   To be re-examined by sub-committee for day to day maintenance and fuelling. Desirability of using middle road of passenger station as pit road to be re-considered and also possibility of use of goods shed.

(f) Stockport.   Recommendations in report of February 1955 agreed for use as day to day maintenance and fuelling depot.

(g) Crewe.   Recommendations in report of February 1955 agreed for use as day to day maintenance and fuelling depot.

(h) Monument Lane.   Sub-Committee to look into as a matter of urgency in connection with both the Manchester and Birmingham schemes.

Mr.Varley to take the initiative in calling further meetings of the sub-committee.
