The first unit to be refurbished (set 151 - 52005 + 59804 + 52031) emerged from Glasgow Works in October 1978. The set featured in an official BR photo album taken at the works on 18/10/78.

All the sets were refurbished at Glasgow Works and emerged in blue/grey livery, none carried the grey / blue stripe refurbished livery.
25 of the 26 sets built were treated. DMBS 51995 had been withdrawn in 1973, the other two vehicles not done were DMCL 52012 (a spare power car in this period) and TSL 59794 (it moved to the LMR in 1981).
