Class 115 Derby Suburban DMU

Forty-one sets were built, 35 for the outer-suburban services from London Marylebone to Aylesbury, High Wycombe and Banbury, which were known as the Chiltern Lines (and co-incidently became table 115 in the timetable), and in the early years all the way to Nottingham. The other six were for Manchester - Liverpool express services on the CLC line.

Based on the basic Derby high density design, in the first year before services on these lines were introduced the sets could be found working in other areas around the country.

The Marylebone sets, which were later transferred to Bletchley but remained on Chiltern Line duties, were declared surplus after the introduction of Class 165s from 1991 onwards. While at Bletchley depot the class was also used on the Barking to Gospel Oak line, and sets would also work from Tyseley in the later years.

The final Class 115 working out of Marylebone was in July 1992. The Tyseley sets survived a bit longer until February 1994. Many vehicles were preserved.
