The TF vehicles were late downgraded to TC vehicles, and later the TCs were downgraded to TSs. All vehicle types had toilets (L).
The original order for the vehicles was for twenty-two DMBSs, twenty-two DMSs, and twenty-two centre cars. Later, after the numbers had been allocated, one centre-car was changed to an additional DMS. As the numbers either side had already been allocated to other vehicles, the extra DMS was gived the out of sequence number 50936 (left free by a change in Class 108 orders) and left 59401 unused.
The two buffet-cars were a later order.
In later on all DMBS vehicles carried set numbers in the 4xx series (at times with and without the 126 prefix, the constant changing of vehicles in sets meant that few DMSs carried numbers, but 51013/4/9/25 were known to carry these on the covered over gangways.
Worksplates were carried on the vehicle solebars to identify the builder and lot number. Many of the worksplate images on the website are from the collections of Simeon Gaskell, John Horne and Tony Spencer.
