Met-Camm Lightweight DMU

The first privately built first generation DMUs, they were commonly know as Met-Camm "Lightweights", despite them being much heavier than the contemporary Derby Lighweights and of identical steel / alloy construction as the later Met-Camm vehicles (Class 101 / 111s).

72 vehicles were built forming 36 power trailer sets. Seven sets were for the London Midland Region to be used mainly on Bury - Bacup services, the remainder for the Eastern Region for use in East Anglian.

Being a non-standard coupling code, their incompatibility meant an early withdrawal, by 1969. Two vehicles saw some further use at the Railway Technical Centre in Derby.

None survive.
