Class 120 DMU at Beeston

14th September 1983

A 3-car Class 120 DMU (set EP514, probably led by 53687) is seen near Beeston station, Nottinghamshire, 14/09/1983. To the right is the building of the Shipstone Maltings - it was built in 1880, operational until 2000, then demolished in 2013 to make way for a housing development. Graeme Phillips Collection.

19th October 1985

On the way to March Yard on 19 October 1985 where my friend scored his "cop" we called at Ely station where this class 120 unit, EP514 with vehicles 53687 + 59264 + 53785, was on its way to Birmingham New Street while passing Ely South signalbox with the diminishing range of semaphore signals showing how much track rationalisation had been carried out in the recent past. A Derby allocated Swindon Cross-Country class 120 dmu set EP514 comprising of cars M53687 + M59264 + M53705, leaves platform 4 at Crewe with a Derby service on 23rd December 1985. EP514 - Johnstone circa September 1986. Class 120 unit 514 transferred from Derby Etches Park seen here in Johnstone just before the electrification of the Ayr line. The set was formed of 53705 59264 53687 around that time. Building of new housing developments around the station was in full swing. Andrew McConnell.
