Surplus to requirements but in warm storage, a rake of Derby class 108 DMU cars was stabled in the sidings at Blackpool North, seen here on April 3rd 1993. The nearest car in this view is well-travelled Driving Motor Brake Second 51919 which despite its destination appears to have been a South Wales allocated set at some point in its long career. Keeping company alongside are surplus class 305 EMU centre trailer coaches in Network South East livery. A view taken in more enlightened times when access was granted with permission of local BR staff in attendance. Martyn Hilbert.
Redundant stock in storage at Enfield Road Carriage Sidings at Blackpool North on April 4th 1993. Alongside a row of redundant Network South East Class 305 EMU cars was a lengthy row of various stored DMU cars/sets. The nearest set was a two-car Class 108 formed of cars 51919 & 52048 (S940) that had been withdrawn from service in February 1993. S940 was eventually preserved on the Swanage Railway, then passed to the Barry Island Railway and is currently based on the Garw Valley Railway in South Wales. Martyn Hilbert.
