Class 116 DMU at Hatton Bank

7th July 1978

M50915 leads set TS511 on Hatton Bank, July 7th 1978. The DMBS should be M50819, the vehicles had recently been converted back to passenger use after a decade carrying parcels. Michael Mensing.

Class 116 DMU at Birmingham New Street

28th June 1982

A Class 116 (set TS 511) on a Longbridge-Lichfield service, approaches Birmingham New St, 28th June 1982. Paul James.

Class 116 DMU at Duffield

September 1983

A Class 116 DMU at Duffield in September 1983. It looks to be set TS511 (presumably 53054 + 59626 + 53106). Mel Smith.

Class 116 DMU at Borsdesley Junction

21st February 1987

A bit of smelly exhaust smoke at Bordesley Junction as two class 116 DMUs climb from the Moor Street lines towards St Andrews Junction and Birmingham New Street with an ECS from Tyseley depot which will later work on the Cross City Line between Blake Street and Redditch. This amount of smoke was commonplace with these DMUs when their engines were cold. 21 February 1987. Peter Tandy.

Class 116 DMU at Stratford-upon-Avon

29th April 1987

Class 116 T511 at Stratford-upon-Avon Class 116 T511 (53832 + 59649 + 53913) with its black cab window surround passing Stratford-upon-Avon East signalbox with a train from Birmingham Moor Street on 29 April 1987. The name of the box (East not North as sometimes wrongly stated) was a hangover from the days when Stratford was on the GWR main line from Wolverhampton to Cheltenham and there was a West box just beyond the roadbridge at the end of the station. Peter Tandy.

Class 116 DMU at Warwick

10th July 1987

M53913 is the closest vehicle in set TS511 seen at Warwick on July 10, 1987. Malcolm Clements.

Class 116 DMU at Bearley Junction

11th July 1987

A bit of paint makes all the difference when applied to a class 116 DMU; the ubiquitous type of unit in the West Midlands in 1987. On 11 July of that year T511 with 53832 + 59649 + 53913 was approaching Bearley Junction when I photographed it working a Leamington Spa to Stratford-upon-Avon train. Peter Tandy.

Class 116 DMU at Birmingham Moor Street

24th September 1987

At Birmingham Moor Street 1987 on 24/9/87, 2 days before the closure of the terminal platforms, a class 116 DMU awaits departure with a Leamington Spa service. It carries set number TS511 in the window, by this date it would probably be known as set T511, presumably with 53832 closest with 59649 + 53913. Stephen Burdett.
