A DMU ran through trap points at Wigan North Western and hit an overhead catenary support causing it to lean over, blocking both mainline tracks. The Wigan breakdown train removed the DMU vehicles during the early hours of the following morning. The vehicles involved are thought to be M50753 which sustained substantial cab damage, and M50800.

An official image (Derby Works negative 58-231) showing a new three-car Cravens DMU with M50800 and presumably M59322 and M50767, new in January 1958. Met-Camm M50327 can be seen in the distance to the left, it would also be posed for an official image here. British Railways.

The interior of a Cravens vehicle, Derby Works negative 58/238. This was from a three-car photographed circa March 1958. It has a toilet at the rear left so it is the DMCL or the TSL, the floor hatches suggest it is the power car M50800. British Railways.
