Rover's Returned. After spending many years in Scotland SC79105 has returned home. These units were built at Swindon Works and were always known as Inter-City Units, they dated from 1957. Taken on 1 May 1976. It had been withdrawn from Leith Central in 1972 and would be scrapped at Snailwell in 1983. Geoff Dowling.
Withdrawn Scottish Region DMU coaches no. Sc79089, Sc79100 & Sc79105, which used to work the Glasgow to Edinburgh services, await their fate outside Swindon Works, whilst on the right, Eastern Region Class 305 EMU no. 452 awaits overhaul before being returned to service. Grounded 'white circle' Swindon built 'Intercity' ex Scottish Region DMU cars were awaiting the end at the King's scrapyard at Snailwell on a snowy November 29th 1980. The units were built in 1956 and worked between Glasgow Queen Street and Edinburgh until 1971 when they were replaced by Class 27's on push-pull duties. Centre is SC79164, on the right SC79109 and on the left facing away is believed to be SC79105. Martyn Hilbert.
The end of the line for four former Scottish Region, Swindon built 'Inter City' DMU power cars. The intermediate car is SC79164, two of the others are noted as SC79105, SC79109 (the latter with the cab facing us). They stand off the rails in Kings Scrapyard at Snailwell in Cambridgeshire on a wintery 29th November 1980. The units were contaminated with asbestos and would be passed through the on-site firing tunnel before the charred remains were cut-up for scrap. Martyn Hilbert.
