Stood on what was once part of the four-track LMS/GWR joint line from Chester to Birkenhead, Regional Railways Class 101, 101681 (51506 + 51228) was forming the onward service from Hooton to Chester on September 1st 1993. Just visible in the adjacent platform is the EMU that has arrived from Liverpool Central. The third rail was extended to Hooton from Liverpool in 1985, and electric services worked through to Chester from 4th October 1993 just after a month when this image was recorded.
