Stood on what was once part of the four-track LMS/GWR joint line from Chester to Birkenhead, Regional Railways Class 101, 101681 (51506 + 51228) was forming the onward service from Hooton to Chester on September 1st 1993. Just visible in the adjacent platform is the EMU that has arrived from Liverpool Central. The third rail was extended to Hooton from Liverpool in 1985, and electric services worked through to Chester from 4th October 1993 just after a month when this image was recorded. Martyn Hilbert.

E50239 leads a twelve-car Met-Camm formation at Shildon 31 August 1975. These shuttles on the day of the 150th cavalcade ran to Darlington, and the November 1975 edition of The Railway Observer (p351) lists this formation as 50239 + 59087 + 59094 + 51505 / 50295 + 56075 / 51438 + 59573 + 59086 + 51506 / 56083 + 51209. A pair of Longsight allocated Class 101's 101681 (51228 & 51506) & 101690 (51435 & 53177), had just left the WCML at nearby Farington Junction and were running along the 'Back Line' at Ward Street Lostock Hall, heading for the East Lancashire route at Lostock Hall Junction with the Sunday Only 08.35 Manchester Piccadilly to Carlisle 'Dalesrail' service on September 19th 1993. I think the Dalesrail only ran along here for this one season. They subsequently went on to Preston and reversed. Martyn Hilbert.
