An unconventional sight in Waverley platform 17 in July 1988 is Derby Lightweight class 108 53631 which spent its first 30 years on the North Eastern region, initially as part of a 4 car set. Drafted in to Scotland in 1987 it is seen here on one end of set 386, a hybrid formed of a BRCW class 110 centre car and a later class 108 51926. When ScR had enough of them, the 108s were tidied up and ran as a pair on the Central Wales line based at Landore while the centre car was withdrawn from Haymarket. On the right is the more common sight of a Met Camm triple 101307 (51231 + 59688 + 53189).
