Class 128 DMPV 55995 is seen in Northampton on October 8th, 1985. During the mid-1980s Northampton was quite a centre for Parcels and Mail Traffic, and at the peak nearly 10 Parcels or Mail trains of various types would leave the town in the afternoons, from a Class 86 with a string of vans to these humble Diesel Parcel Units. Tyseley Depot may have been short of serviceable Diesel Parcels Units on 2nd September 1985, as this tidy Gloucester RC&W built single unit 55003 was in the Parcels bays at Northampton, around the time when a Diesel Parcels Unit should have been there! AndrewHA.

At approx 1500hrs on Saturday 13th May 1989 sets 915 (55975 + 55985) and 920 (55966 + 55967) creep slowly up the centre Road at Northampton Station. Their destination unknown, by 1100hrs the following Day all 4 cars were tucked up inside the DMU Shed at Manchester's Longsight Depot. AndrewHA.

I photographed this Diesel Parcels Unit, carrying the set number 911, at Northampton in October 1986. The set is made up of vehicles 55981/55971, converted from Class 127 cars 51612/51597. Both vehicles had been new in August 1959 and were converted to DPUs in May 1985. The unit was withdrawn from service in May 1989 and both vehicles were scrapped by Mayer Newman at Snailwell.
