New Holland Pier on 15/5/79. The station served an area of North Lincolnshire for ferry services across the Humber to Hull. Services ceased in August 1981, when the Humber Bridge was opened. A Class 114 sits in the station with a Cleethorpes service. The walkway is like a long platform with New Holland Town station. Stephen Burdett.
The 10.26 Doncaster - Cambridge dmu service, one of three southbound passenger services still serving the joint line in 1980. The setting is Murrow West. This was at one time the site of a flat crossing with the M&GN Peterborough - Wisbech - Sutton Bridge line on which, until its closure in 1959, the hamlet of Murrow had the extravagant facilities of a further station named Murrow East. On 30th October 1980 motoring past are Lincoln based Class 114 Derby 'heavyweight' set E50046 + E56026 leading Norwich allocated Cravens Class 105 unit E56480 + E51261 (set 65). Gerard Fletcher.
Saturday May 8th 1982 was a much busier day than usual on the old joint line from Spalding to March, due to it being Spalding tulip parade which saw numerous special trains and associated stock and loco movements along the line. Here one of the regular service trains, the 10.29 Doncaster - Cambridge approaches the site of the flat crossing with the M & GN at Murrow formed by Derby Heavyweight set E50046 + E56036. The 49-strong fleet of Class 114 2-car DMUs spent most of their working lives based at Lincoln depot. Although a local type with standard bus seating, they had a wide sphere of operation in Eastern England, covering Lincolnshire, Humberside, Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire, but regularly worked deeper into West / North Yorkshire, reaching Darlington in the north and Peterborough in the south. They often worked into Leeds on services to / from Sheffield, and here, 53046 & 54042 are sen at City station with a Sheffield service on 14/06/1987. Graeme Phillips Collection.
