Taken from the signal box at Manchester Central on 3rd May 1969 a 3x2-car DMU formation is captured leaving the station heading west. At least the two closest sets are Class 108/104 hybrids, the Class 104 DMBS in the centre set has yellow cab doors. Manchester Central would close two days after this picture was taken, today Metrolink trams run where the dmu is. Andrew J Crowther.

Set: AN610

One of the six Allerton allocated Derby 1960 built class 115 high density dmu's (the set number seems to read AN610) is captured arriving into the 9 platformed Manchester Central station, which was built by the Cheshire Lines Committiee, opening on the 1st July 1880 and closing on 5th May 1969. It has since been converted into an exhibition and conference centre, opening as G-MEX in 1986 and now renamed Manchester Central again. Andrew J Crowther.

11.53 Cambridge - St Ives has just taken the St Ives line at Chesterton Junction on 21 April 1970. Class 108 DTCL E56203 leads working with a Class 105 DMBS. Tom Burnham.

A busy scene at Upton by Chester Station (on the down line heading towards Hooton and Birkenhead) on the 27th of June 1970 as the local Sunday Schools 7-car dmu special is boarded prior to departure for Llandudno. Despite the weather looking good at this point it was pouring with rain in Llandudno and we ending up going to watch the Battle of Britain in the cinema to keep dry! It is formed of two 2-car Met-Camms (50208 possibly closest) with a GRC&W Cross-Country set in between. The KDH Archive.

At Manchester Oxford Road on 20 March 1971, 25kV electric unit 030 is on the 15.05 to Alderley Edge. On the right, the Derby suburban quad (later known as a Class 115) DMU set number AN599 is on the 15.05 departure for Warrington. Tom Burnham.

Seen passing Chester Number 6 box is a six-car DMU formation with a Class 119 leading on a Chester to Shrewsbury service on the 11th of July 1971. The KDH Archive.

A loose 103 DTC and a 108 on Chester depot on 11 July 1971. Chester on certain Sundays in 1971 was a much more interesting place than usual as when the WCML between Acton Grange and Crewe was closed through trains from the North and Liverpool to Euston and Liverpool Cross Country services were diverted via Chester. This involved arriving through the station and running past the depot onto the Hooton line, then reversing round the curve onto the North Wales line, before setting off forward again round the curve to the station. Class 50 D426 is on the first leg on this operation on the 1P31 Euston to Carlisle service. The KDH Archive.
