Not from round these here parts? Metro Cammell twin 101 692 awaits the signal at Dumbarton Central (Platform 3) and an eastbound path. It's not in passenger service and the exact working is not known. The DMS nearest the camera is probably 53170 with DMB 53253 behind. The livery is the blue iteration of the SPT schemes. Prior to Sprinterisation of the West Highland Lines, regular DMU passenger operation was not common round here - apart from railtours or when the OHLE was de-energised. In Regional Railways livery, Metro-Cammell Class 101's 101655 (54062 & 51428) & 101653 (51426 & 54358) were arriving at Preston with the Saturday Only 09.44 Manchester Piccadilly to Blackpool North service on April 18th 1998. In set 101655, car 54062 has survived into preservation at the East Anglian Railway Museum, whilst 51428 was scrapped in 2001. In set 101653, 51426 was scrapped in 2001 with 54358 being preserved at the North Norfolk Railway. Martyn Hilbert.

Class 101 53211, set number 101 657 (with 54085), is seen at Chester on 26.05.1998 having been refurbished and repainted into Regional Railways livery. Andy Cole.

Class 101 53164, set number 101 685, is seen at Warrington Bank Quay on 27.05.1998. It had been refurbished and repainted back into BR green, and was unofficially known as Daisy. Andy Cole.

This is L840 (101840) at Crewe, waiting to work a service to Bangor. Taken on a very sunny and pleasant day on 30/05/98. Note the brake handle has been deliberately left on the handbrake in the cab and the white tag tied to the jumper cable of the leading vehicle (53311). I took the decision to ride this service as far as Chester and thankfully the Driver left the blind up, as well as subsequently rolling the Secondman's one up too. Unusually the Guard did not use the brakevan to work the train, preferring to stay in the back cab of the unit instead. The other vehicle is 53322. Greg Scott.
