The leading twin is a Class 103/119, a comment added to the image on flickr notes the 119 to be M51057 which "ran in various hybrid formations during the late seventies". Hooton on the 28th of July 1978. Class 103 Park Royal DMU has either just worked or is about to work the 2F73 service. The dmu is heading for Helsby but although we frequently travelled from Chester to Rock Ferry in the 70's I can't remember if the Helsby services started from Rock Ferry at the time or just ran from Hooton. I certainly remember rattling along the North Wales cost on Chester Park Royals many a time. The KDH Archive.
A Class 103 DMU at Holyhead on 23/08/1978. The Class 103s had a career spanning some 25 years, which is surprising considering they were considered non-standard in terms of their bodywork construction, which gave trouble in later years. They tended to be concentrated on services along the border counties between England and Wales, as well as Wales. Graeme Phillips Collection.
