Tucked away out of sight around the back of Manchester Victoria was this bay platform, if it was in regular use or not I don't know but stock would stable overnight in it, as seen here in the shape of a BRC&W class 104 DMBS M53444 on the 9th April 1988. Andrew J Crowther.

This was the last time I saw a BRC&W Class 104 on the Buxton line on a service train, as they had long since been displaced on the Buxton line by this time, interesting too the second time I had seen a 2 car example, as all Buxton units were 3 cars. This is Newton Heath allocated N666 led by 53493 heading back to Manchester on the outskirts of Hazel Grove, 24th April 1989. Andrew J Crowther.

With peeling paint and corrosion erupting around the cab windows, a well-worn looking Class 104 Driving Motor Brake Second M53451 was coupled to Driving Open Second Lavatory M53518, stood at a run-down Squires Gate with a Blackpool South to Colne service on October 15th 1988. The Coast Line from Blackpool South to Kirkham had fallen on hard times, with just a single track remaining on this once busy route that in the days gone by, buzzed with activity. Despite being close to the Pontins Holiday Camp and Blackpool Airport, the facilities at Squires Gate had been reduced to a bare platform. A far-cry from the days when there were even Camping Coaches located here. The 104 was into its last period of extended operation due to ongoing problems with the Class 142 Pacer fleet. Heading down the gradient between Disley and Middlewood on 6th May 1989 is a BRC&W Newton Heath allocated 3 car set N669 (53528, 59187, 53454), with the 104 DMUPG "Buxton 104 Farewell" on a special Buxton-Manchester Piccadilly non stop run. By this time the 104's had been displaced by 108's which in turn were being displaced by the new Sprinters, so this might well have been the last visit of a 104 to Buxton. Andrew J Crowther.
