This must have been the furthest north a Buxton allocated DMU set worked at the time being synonymous generally with services South of Manchester. 3-car set BX 372 (53930+59148+52056) formed with two class 108 motor coaches and a class 104 intermediate trailer is seen shortly after arrival at Heysham Harbour on 2 June 1988. Set BX 372 having worked "Boat Train" 1P13 the 12.05 Stockport to Heysham Harbour with connection to Douglas on the Isle of Man by way of the IOM Steam Packet Co. Ferry. Adrian Nicholls.
Buxton allocated DMU set BX372 (52056 + 59148 + 53930), a class 108/104 hybrid, stands at the old Morecambe station on the promenade with train 1H51 the 14.55 to Stockport on 02/06/88. This station closed on 07/02/94 when a smaller two platform station opened closer to the town centre but in doing so reduced the length of the branch by 17ch (nearly ¼ mile). Adrian Nicholls.

On the 5th June 1988 Newton Heath allocated Class 108 DMBS M53944 is seen during an overhaul at BREL Doncaster Works Carriage & Wagon Section. Later converted to departmental Sandite vehicle ADB977766 she was eventually scrapped during April 1994 by C F Booth, Rotherham. Bob Woolnough.

Inside the Doncaster Works Carriage & Wagon Department on the 5th June 1988 Bristol Bath Road based Class 108 DMBS No.53618 from Set B966 is supported on jacks undergoing an overhaul. Withdrawn diring February 1992 she was subsequently scrapped at Gwent Demolition, Margam, South Wales. Bob Woolnough.
Delivered in December 1958, Class 108 DMBS M53626 is stabled outside the Test House at BREL Doncaster Works on the 5th June 1988 after what was probably it’s last General Overhaul. At the time allocated to Buxton MPD as can be seen by the unit code in the window M53626 would be withdrawn from passenger service in October 1991 and renumbered as ADB977745 in service as a Route Learning / Sandite vehicle until finally withdrawn a year later in October 1992 and scrapped by CF Booth, Rotherham during January 1993. DTS(L) M54261 (presumably with M53978) leads a four-car formation calling at Kent's Bank (Cumbria) with the 12:07 Lancaster-Barrow, 11/6/88. The Class 108s allocated to Carlisle Kingmoor (KD) depot were the mainstay of local services in Cumbria and North Lancashire for many years. In May 1988, shortly before this image was taken, KD closed, and the fleet was split between Heaton (HT) depot at Newcastle for Cumbian Coast / Windermere routes, and Chester (CH) for north Lancashire routes, such as the service illustrated. Class 108 53977, set number N691 (with Class 104 53501), is seen on the line that leads into the wheel lathe at Tyseley on 11.06.1988. It was allocated to Newton Heath at the time. Andy Cole.
