A Network South East Three Counties class 108, 54194 leading, 51916 pushing, waits at Kettering with a Bedford service. I don't know whether any passengers were confused by the destination displayed: in fact I don't know if there were any passengers. Taken on January 25, 1989. Mike Dean.

In the late 1980s Network South East launched an experimental service from Bedford and Kettering to Corby, well outside of NSE's normal area. The service used DMUs from Bletchley's allocation, and on Saturday 11th February 1989 a 4 car set made up of 53599 59735 59206 and 51572 (closest) depart Wellingborough for Corby. AndrewHA.

Class 108 2-car DMUs S946 and S951 pass at Llandrindod Wells on 13 February 1989. S946 (presumably 52046 + 53939) is working the 12.52 Shrewsbury-Swansea and S951 (presumably 52041 + 53935) the 11.49 Swansea-Shrewsbury. I had arrived at Llandrindod on the "Welsh Mountain Cobbler" railtour (hauled by 47 612) and this photo was taken during a 90 minute break in the railtour itinerary. Lewis Bevan.

On a cold Winter evening, a Class 108 two-car DMU formed of DMBS M53970 & DTSL M56264 was stood in platform 6 at Preston with a Barrow-In-Furness service on February 18th 1989. The 108's were once synonomous with the Cumbrian Coast route, a large allocation being once based at Carlisle that had bars fitted over the door droplights due to restricted clearances on the Maryport to Carlisle section of the route.
