This is a view of Lincoln Central station looking westwards from Pelham Bridge. A Class 114 dmu leaves the station in the direction of Market Rasen, while Class 08 no. 08102 stands on one of the through roads. On the right can be seen 31203 and 37106 in the bay platforms. The rare appearance of a Class 114 'Derby Heavyweight' two-car DMU, formed of cars E54027 & E53019, stabled in Croft Street Sidings at Preston on May 3rd 1987. The following day it worked a Blackpool North - Manchester Victoria service. This was the period when faults on relatively new Class 142's were causing the cobbling together/transfer and reinstatement of first generation DMU sets, prior to the introduction of Class 150/2 Sprinters in sufficient quantities. 4th May 1987

The rare appearance of a Class 114 'Derby Heavyweight' Two-Car DMU in the Preston area for a few brief days in the Spring of 1987. Formed of cars E54027 & E53019, the unit was stood on the Up Fast at Leyland Station with an early morning Blackpool North to Manchester Victoria service on May 4th 1987. The 114's were synonymous with services in Lincolnshire and South Yorkshire and were not common visitors to Preston. This was the period when errant Class 142's saw first generation DMU's having an extended period of operation. First introduced in 1956, the last of the Class 114's were withdrawn from passenger service in 1992. Martyn Hilbert.

A Derby Heavyweight class 114 DMU set is seen crossing Mexborough East Junction with train 2R09 the 09.42 Sheffield Midland to Cleethorpes. The line to the right being the once busy freight route via Wath marshalling yard which lost its importance with the closure of the Woodhead route across the Pennines. Adrian Nicholls.

This line reopened to passengers as a through route again between Nottingham and Worksop in 1998 and is branded as the Robin Hood Line. Andrew J Crowther.

This line that the train is on reopened to passengers as a through route again between Nottingham and Worksop in 1998 and is branded as the Robin Hood Line, the line off to the right lead eventually to High Marnham Power station, as well as serving the many many collieries on the way, which have now all gone. The front unit is the sole South Yorkshire Transport PTE liveried unit 54004 & 53045, which was liveried up to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the SYPTE IN 1984. Andrew J Crowther.

Class 114 54004 is seen at Shirebrook open day on 06.06.1987. This was the only 2 car Class 114 painted in South Yorkshire PTE Brown and Cream livery. Note that the trailer has had the bodyside SYPTE 1984 anniversary stickers reapplied. Andy Cole.

The 49-strong fleet of Class 114 2-car DMUs spent most of their working lives based at Lincoln depot. Although a local type with standard bus seating, they had a wide sphere of operation in Eastern England, covering Lincolnshire, Humberside, Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire, but regularly worked deeper into West / North Yorkshire, reaching Darlington in the north and Peterborough in the south. They often worked into Leeds on services to / from Sheffield, and here, 53046 & 54042 are sen at City station with a Sheffield service on 14/06/1987. Graeme Phillips Collection.
