Class 116/127 combination T326 (presumably 53891 + 59609 + 51131) is seen forming a Lincoln service at Nottingham in May 1993. Note the first two vehicles are missing their numbers (possibly due to dust removal software). Andrew Walker.
T325 (53818 + 59611 + 53132) at Coventry on the 14:35 to Stoke on Trent, 1/5/93. Gazza Prescott.
On 2 May 1993 Pathfinder ran a mini-railtour in connection with an open day at Worcester using 20138+20066. The 2 locos were, unusually, hauling two 4-car DMUs, T404 (51853+59735+59604+53919) + T412 (51860+59591+59446+53116) which ran from Birmingham New Street to Worcester via the Lickey incline, and then on to Hereford and back via Great Malvern. There was plenty of time to run over to Stoke Edith, on the Worcester - Hereford line, to obtain the third of four shots. The sun still co-operated for this pleasantly rural view. Peter Tandy.
Run in conjunction with Worcester Rail Day, 20066/20138 were photographed at Hereford on 2 May 1993 on one of a series of "mini-tours" which used DMU sets T404 + T412 as the hauled stock. They had set off from Birmingham New St, and, after visiting the Open Day at Worcester, tour participants had a choice from a return trip to Gloucester, then two return trips to Hereford, before the return to Birmingham. Lewis Bevan.
53083, 51220, 54371, 51443 & 51445 sit with 20199 at M.C. Metals, Springburn 4-5-93. Kevin Dowd.
Towards the end of their careers, DMU sets were thrown together with whatever was available. Class 116 DMS number W51141 is nearest the camera, but the centre car was a class 108 and the DMBS was M53071 (again class 116) when seen at Temple Meads on 14th May 1993. Sean Lancastle.
53921 leads set T414 (53921/59592/59641/51880 on this day) waiting to form the 17.35 to Redditch at New St on 6/7/93. Leonard Rogers.
T404 (53919 + 59604 + 59735 + 51853) calls at Northfield on the 12:25 Longbridge - New St., 9th July 1993. Gazza Prescott.
Hybrid DMU set T354 (53919 + 59604 + 51853) at Nottingham on 20/7/93. Sparegang.
Hybrid Class 116/127/115 DMU set T354 (53919 + 59604 + 51853) at Nottingham on 20/7/93. Sparegang.
Class 116 DMS 53116 is seen at Derby when operating as a three car driving motor set on 22.07.1993. Tyseley were just banging any available working cars together at this point to make up scratch sets. Andy Cole.
Class 116 set T321 passes Elton & Orston with a Skegness bound working. John Clark.
T424 (53055 + 59603) with 118s 51314 + 51329 at Longbridge on an ECS to form the 16:54 to Lichfield City, 9/9/93. Gazza Prescott.
T354 (M53919+M59604+M51853) at Birmingham International on the 12:00 to New St. Kevin Dowd.
Class 150s worked most of the local services between Birmingham and Leamington Spa in 1993 so it was a bit of a surprise to see a 5 car DMMU coming around the bend at Finwood (the location sometimes called Rowington or Lowsonford although both villages are a few miles away) on the afternoon of Saturday 25 September 1993. The leading unit has a 116 at the front and the class 117 trailing is 117210 (51415 + 51373). This was a popular spot at the time as there were 3 southbound intermodals in quick succession including a Leeds to Southampton usually powered by a pair of class 37s along with the chance of a northbound MGR from Didcot Power Station. Peter Tandy.
An interesting formation (116 DMBS, 116 DMS, 116 DMS, 115 DMBS (smaller brake compartment) and 116 DMS), seen at Small Heath, Birmingham, emitting a great plume of smoke as it passes. The destination blind reads Longbridge, but this is an ECS move (no passengers are visible) from Tyseley depot to Birmingham New Street to work on the Cross-City Line. The leading car is M53053, and set T333, which dates it around late 1993. Graeme Phillips Collection.
Class 116 sandite 977829, formerly 53093, paired with a Class 121 (possibly 55034) at Norwich Crown Point in 1994. While it carries a set number, it does not seem to be carrying a vehicle number, and the white lining between grey and blue seems a little unusual. John Law.
The Bank Holiday Monday on 2 May 1994 saw some Birmingham to Stratford-upon-Avon trains formed of DMMUs rather than the usual class 150 sprinters. Here is a mixed formation of two power triples led by T351 (presumably 53921 at the front) and a Network South East liveried set (the rear vehicle labelled as L713, presumably 51391) approaching at Bishopton. Peter Tandy.
This Bank Holiday 2 May 1994 image shows a real hotch-potch six car DMMU about to make the Henley-in-Arden stop. The leading coach was from class 116 set T356 with a 2 coach class 116, a 2 coach NSE set with a single driving coach from another class 116 on the back. This Bank Holiday Monday saw first generation DMUs replacing the usual class 150 sprinters presumably to cater for the influx of visitors to Stratford from the West Midlands conurbation. The police were always out in force on these holidays to keep an eye on any would-be tourists who had drunk more than was good for them (and for anyone else within earshot) on the inward journey. These characters were usually unceremoniously dumped in a van and taken away to Stratford police station to sober up before being put back on a later train without being allowed into the town. Peter Tandy.
Looking towards Bearley Junction from Henley-in-Arden on 2 May 1994 we see a six car set led by T588 (class 116 DMS 53124 leading with Class 119 51079 + 51107) and a 3 car class 116 trailing. Peter Tandy.
