Class 116 DMU set C312 awaits departure for Merthyr at Barry Island on 25 March 1978. The station was clearly built to handle crowds who have not put in appearance on a wet March Saturday. A GWR bench is seen on the extreme right. Tom Burnham.

A Class 116 power car, presumably at Tyseley, the slide process date was April 1978. It doesn't have a coloured gutter - it's just a scanning artifact - but it does have some recent welding work done on the bogie. Stuart Mackay Collection.

Birmingham University station, 1st June 1978. A Class 116 diesel multiple unit, no doubt based at Tyseley, on a pre-electrification Cross City service disappears towards Redditch (although this service terminated at Longbridge according to the banner display) at the new Birmingham University station in Edgebaston.
