Winter's afternoon at Worcester. Worcester Tunnel Junction in the late 1970's on a late winter afternoon sees a DMU leaving for Birmingham just passing Tunnel Junction signal box. In the middle distance the old loco shed is partially still standing, a Peak and a class 31 are on shed. As a backdrop the fine Cathedral at Worcester is silhouetted against the brooding Malvern Hills. Geoff Dowling.
Birmingham New Street from Navigation St. The footbridge at this end is yet to be built, Stephenson Tower is ablaze with light and the platforms contain class 116 and 120 dmu's and a 47 on a West Country bound train. A DMU arrives at Upper Holloway on a Barking to Kentish Town working in June 1977. It is composed of a 3-car set and a single power car. Services were diverted to Gospel Oak in 1980, presumably because of congestion at Kentish Town, once electrification was underway. Kevin Lane.

A Class 116 power car, presumably at Tyseley, the slide process date was April 1978. It doesn't have a coloured gutter - it's just a scanning artifact - but it does have some recent welding work done on the bogie. Stuart Mackay Collection.

Birmingham University station, 1st June 1978. A Class 116 diesel multiple unit, no doubt based at Tyseley, on a pre-electrification Cross City service disappears towards Redditch (although this service terminated at Longbridge according to the banner display) at the new Birmingham University station in Edgbaston.
