Class 117 DMU, set B438 (presumably 51382 + 59492 + 51339) approaches Wellington AHB with a down service. At this time there was a Shrewsbury-Cardiff service that ran in the early afternoon that was a DMU, and this is most probably that train. 23rd June 1985. John Crooks.

With the GWR 150 celebrations of 1985 in mind 1st generation DMU No.s W51368, W59520 and W51410 emerge from Bristol Bath Road in GWR Chocolate & Cream livery, on the 30th June 1985. Sadly BR, in their infinite wisdom, announced the closure of Swindon Works within the same year and completely marred any festivities including the planned works open day. Paul Bettany.

Class 117 B427 (51407, 59517 + 51365) were pictured at Droitwich Spa with a Hereford to Birmingham New Street train on 6 July 1985. In all honesty I took this shot largely because of the presence of some loaded wagons in the siding alongside the up loop; the first and indeed only time I saw anything on either line. Peter Tandy.

Class 117 set B430, W51410 (leading) + W59520 + W51368, heads away from Taunton returning to Bristol. A very Great Western scene with the dmu in BR-WR livery, 47628 'Sir Daniel Gooch' in GW livery waiting as back up for the GW150 special headed by 5051 'Drysllwyn Castle' and 4930 'Hagley Hall' waiting at the fine array of semaphore signals. A busy scene at Ruscombe on 16 July 1985, with a the 16.52 Reading to Paddington Class 117 dmu passing 50 043 with the 16.25 Paddington - Cheltenham, while just beyond the bridge is a westbound class 128 parcels dmu. Robert28194.

I arrived at Stratford-upon-Avon on Saturday 19 July 1985 to catch the 08.12 train to Leamington Spa to find an unusual replacement for the usual single unit or pair of single units in the form of class 117 set B431 comprising 51411, 59521 and 51369. I assumed that this had been pinched by Tyseley to cover a shortage of their own sets after it had arrived at Birmingham New Street during the previous day. I sat in the first class compartment to take full advantage of the thicker padding and better backrests of the seats... Peter Tandy.

Class 117 set B431 (51369 + 59521 + 51411) worked trains between Leamington Spa on Stratford-upon-Avon on 19 July 1985. At Leamington Spa the procedure at the time was for trains arriving into platform 3 from the north to leave the station on the up line and then use the crossover just around the corner to reverse and come back either into platform 2 for Birmingham services or to run through the station before reversing again to gain bay platform 1 for Stratford. This picture shows B431 having completed the first reversal as it ran past the flower beds on platform 2. Peter Tandy.
