NSE class 117 set no. L706 formed 51408 & 51366 and L721 (51405 & 51363) have arrived ECS at Bletchley station. The driver has completed checking his train and now heads to the cab to take the units to Bletchley carriage sidings. Robert Chilton.

Set L707 (51335 visible) approaches Ridgmont with a service from Bletchley on 15 06 1995, passing under the M1 Motorway. Just beyond the unit is a WW2 left-over, and that was part of PLUTO [pipeline under the ocean] where oil was fed to other parts of the warring world (Thanks to the late Sid Cave for the trivia). Paul Fleet.

Bedford station on 12 October 1996. Class 117 2-car unit L707 (51335/51377) has arrived working the 14.50 from Bletchley while Class 319 184 has arrived on Platform 2 with a service from the south. 51335/51377 were built by Pressed Steel in 1960 and were originally in a 3-car set with trailer 59487. They were allocated to Bletchley depot at the date of my photo, and were withdrawn from that depot in May 1998. Both vehicles were scrapped by Sims Metals in Cardiff. 319 184 was one of the second batch of Class 319s, built in 1990. It was converted to a 319/3 (by the removal of 1st class accommodation) in the period 1997-1999 and, as such, is still in service with Northern Trains. Lewis Bevan.

Class 117 (51336 + 51378) and Class 101 DMUs at St Ives on 1 August 1995. David Mant.
At, in my opinion, the most beautiful places one could find a railcar 51336 of set 117708 (presumably with 51378) leads a class 117 and 101 (101842, presumably 53314 + 53327) combination on the St. Ives branch near Carbis Bay on 4th August 1995. Ian Buck.
Leaving St Erth for St Ives is 51378 on the rear of set L708, presumably with 51336. At the front is Class 101 set 101842 (presumably 53314 + 53327). Ian Buck.

51378 is out of service at Bletchley Depot on 14th April 1999. Ian Buck.
Set L709, 51344 & 51386, at Penzance depot on 28th April 1995. Ian Buck.

The Bank Holiday Monday on 2 May 1994 saw some Birmingham to Stratford-upon-Avon trains formed of DMMUs rather than the usual class 150 sprinters. Here is a mixed formation (two power-triples, T351 on the rear) led by Network South East liveried L713 (presumably 51391) passing the long-gone Stratford down distant signal between the two bridges at Bishopton in the days before Stratford Parkway station was even a vague thought in someone's mind. This signal was rarely raised to the clear position; in steam days virtually everything stopped at Stratford either for water or to pick up passengers and even in the days when the line saw diesel hauled freight it would have been necessary for the Evesham Road crossing gates to have been closed and the road set to allow this to happen. Peter Tandy.
