Class 118 set P462 (presumably 51304 + 59477 + 51319) at Westbury in May 1985. My notes from the time say this was working a shuttle service to Taunton, presumably because of engineering works in the Exeter area. Robert28194.

A brief stop at Exeter Central station found DMU set P465 (51307 / 59474 / 51322) with what was likely to have been an Exmouth service. 4th May 1985. S Gaskell.

Class 118 DMU P460 was painted in this garish livery to advertise the privatisation of British Telecom in November 1984. Car 51317 with 59469 behind (DMBS 51317 is out of view) is seen stabled on the curve between Laira Junction and Lipson Junction on 4 May 1985. S Gaskell.

In a lovely Yellow livery unit Class 118 DMU P460 (51317 + 59469 + 51302) is seen at the head of the queue at Exeter St Davids on the 20.15 service to Exmouth on the 11th of May 1985. Not sure what service the 50 was on. The KDH Archive.

Class 118 set L468 (51325 and presumably 59471 + 51310) about to depart from Tenby on 1st June 1985. It had been transferred to Bristol Bath Road on 11 May, officially from Laira but it had been working from Reading earlier in the year where it gained the L prefix despite not (recorded as) being allocated there. Class 118 set P471 (51329 presumably closest with 59481 + 51314) on the 15:55 Newton Abbot - Exeter St Davids departing Dawlish Warren at 16:15 on Saturday 15th June 1985. Colin Brooks.

The Plymouth Laira Depot allocated class 118 DMU sets were often reduced to 2-car sets for working some of the Cornish branches likes Gunnislake, Newquay or St.Ives but when deployed further east in Devon 3-car sets were preferable because of loadings on the likes of the Paignton, Barnstaple and Exmouth branches. So here class 118 set P480 (51312+51327) has been augmented with a class 101 intermediate trailer (59551). The 3-car set is seen at Exmouth prior to departure with train 2B84 the 18.14 to Exeter St.Davids on 8 July 1985. Adrian Nicholls.
