Class 119 Gloucester RC&W Co. set no. L580 (51094 + 59425 + 51066) is seen working 2O26 the 05.59 Reading to Tonbridge service as it passes Godstone Tip Sidings on 10 July 1990. In the tip siding are 73 119 & 73 103 with spoil train 7Y35 the 08.32 from Redhill Down Tonbridge Branch Sidings. The site was operated by South Godstone Aggregate Ltd who screened and resold railway ballast as roadstone while using an old brickworks pit to dispose of anything arriving that wasn't recyclable like chalk and mud. Network Southeast liveried Gloucester RC&W class 119 Diesel Multiple Unit L595 with DMBC 51074 leading, trailer 59430 and a class 121 single car substituting for the DMS, arrives at Banbury with a service from Oxford in August 1990. In 1991 hybrid dmu L708 is seen at Cardiff Central on a Valley Lines service. Class 119 DMSL 51103 was paired with class 104 DMBS 53437 providing a second class only dmu. This unit was based at Old Oak Common at this time, but had clearly been loaned to Regional Railways Cardiff, perhaps for a rugby event at the Arms Park Stadium. Tony Walmsley.
A hybrid DMU departs from Reading station with the 10:35 service to Gatwick Airport on 3 February 1991. Class 119 DMBC 51065 leads, labelled as set L579. The other two vehicles are presumably Class 117s - TSL 59424 and DMS 51103 from set L404, its DMBS 51337 had been withdrawn the previous October. Robert Thomas.
Then the usual traction on Reading-Tonbridge/Gatwick services, an NSE liveried Class 119 enters Guildford in March 1991. By this time, the tortuously worded "Passenger Luggage Stowage Area" signs had been removed from the guards van and former buffet area and replaced with the simple "North Downs" branding.
