A freshly-outshopped class 120 set - 51790 (leading)/59681/51782 - stands at the eastern end of St Rollox works yard on Sunday 10.9.78, awaiting departure back to Inverness the following day. Note that, unlike some of the others of its kind at Inverness, the DMBC retains its second class seating area ahead of the guard's van and has not had it converted to mail and parcels space. Notice too that the buffet is both labelled as such on the coach side and carries a red stripe above the buffet windows - not so common on DMU's. Leonard Rogers.
The Central Wales Line used to be operated with pairs of class 120 "Cross Country" motor coaches fitted with headlights (at a time this was unusual in Britain) because of the numerous level crossing on the line. The photo was taken on a circular "Central Wales roundabout" ticket which allowed one to travel from London to Swansea, Shrewsbury (via the Central Wales) and back to London (or v.v) for a bargain fare. I imagine this was taken (at Llanwrtyd Wells on September 16, 1978, presumably 50664 + 50702) while waiting for another train to cross. The line, from Llanelli to Craven Arms, is now known as the Heart of Wales line. Jeremy Chapter.

High above Trago Mills a Penzance to Plymouth working has just crossed St Pinnick viaduct next stop Liskeard. This location has been impossible to do since about 1980 completely overgrown, even then it was very tight. The west side has been back on again but the trees are a growing up fast. roger geach.
