A rather grubby Class 120 'Swindon Cross Country' set no. C615 (51781+59682+51788) is seen at Carmarthen during its reversal with train 2C64 the 13.15 Swansea to Milford Haven on 11/04/81. These 'Swindon' sets were synonymous with West Wales in the late 1970's early 80's with a mix of 2 and 3 car units covering the majority of no loco hauled services. Adrian Nicholls.

This is obviously a Branch Line Society railtour! Swindon Cross-Country car 51787 really could not have travelled further down the branch to Girvan Goods on the second day of the "Ayrshire Wanderer" tour on 30 August 1981. Under leaden skies 2-Car class 120 DMU set no.C602 (50649+50698) leads a 2x2-car class 120 formation into Llandrindod Wells on 27/05/81 with train 2V93 the 10.46 Shrewsbury to Swansea. These units were fitted with headlights specifically for this lengthy single line through Mid-Wales many years before it became standard on BR traction. Adrian Nicholls.
