Between 1982 and 1984 I spent many happy hours with my friends chasing around the North of England after the remaining Class 40s. In between times, we did of course go bashing other quality classes, and the pairs of Class 20s that used to be employed on Summer Saturday workings from the Midlands to Skegness were always a riot! Seen here, on Platform 3 at Nottingham Midland station on Sunday 31st July 1983, is a vintage Swindon built Class 120 3-car DMU [Derby Etches Park based set EP510] - as we awaited our first Class 20 move of the day. DMSL 53667 is closest, the Met-Camm centre car and 120 DMBCL on the rear are presumably 59524 + 53713. Chris McKee.

Class 120 NVR Orton Mere 6 August 1983. For a few Saturdays during the school holidays in summer 1983 BR ran a DMU shuttle three times a day to connect Peterborough station via Fletton Junction with the Nene Valley Railway at Orton Mere. I travelled all the way down from Scotland to "do" this link line. Here we see the DMU having set back to allow the NVR steam service from Wansford to arrive. Today the line continues beyond where the sugar factory used to be at Woodston to Peterborough Town station, a new build almost but not quite where the former Peterborough East station used to be so Orton Mere now sees little use. Alistair Ness.
