120535 calls at Dunlop with the 12.45 Kilmarnock - Glasgow Central train on 23-11-1987. I've recorded the cars as 53733, 59262, 53654. The old goods shed & yard have been taken over by a builders yard, later to become housing. Gordon Thomson.
Crossmyloof 30th December 1987. The Ayr Electrics had started as I arrived the year before in Ayrshire. In 1987, the Stranraers, Kilmarnocks and East Kilbride services were still first generation DMU out of Glasgow Central. This was their swansong before the Sprinters arrived. Ayr and Corkerhill depots were working miracles. Even as the 156s started, the plans to reopen Carmyle and Paisley Canal ensured that the final end for Class 101 was some years off. But back to 1987 IIRC the DMU choice was 101/104/105/107/116/120 with three livery choices. This set is all blue/grey but what was meant to be an Ayr 3 car 101 has a class 120 at the back - 53654. The TBSL centre car is presumably 59112. Robert Forsythe.
Set 535 appears to be formed from a Class 120 DMBC and two Class 101 vehicles when seen at Stirling on an unknown date. Tom Clift.

A so-called "first generation" dmu (Class 120 set 553) enters Yeovil Pen Mill station with the 14:55 Weymouth - Cardiff service on Tuesday 12th August 1980. The two platform faces seen here are quite unusual, I think, certainly for this part of the world. I'd travelled down that morning from Keynsham behind a class 47, and it seems, based on evidence from the same film, that the purpose of the trip was to photograph class 50s on Waterloo - Exeter services at Yeovil Junction. Note the painted/covered over destination blind box, and the missing set prefix. Set 553 had been transferred from LA to CF circa April that year - the P could have been peeled off and awaiting a C. Tom Harper.
Class 120 Cross-Country set 555 (51590 and presumably 59582 + 51576) sits in the platform at Carmarthen as does 37 182 and some Mark Is. On the left the unique Booth car 1106 destined for the Gwili Railway has been craned onto a truck without bogies, and a siding contains a rake of postal vehicles.20th December 1980. Robert Thomas.
