Sunday engineering work in January 1983 brought some unusual services through Barnsley, including this Liverpool-bound working with a Trans-Pennine unit (E51956 visible), seen passing more conventional motive power (which looks like a Class 114) in the Sheffield platform. Andrew Walker.

A real rarity at Barnsley in January 1983, due to diversions caused by closures on the Hope Valley route. This Trans-Pennine unit was heading for Liverpool and is seen here entering Barnsley station. The four-car Class 124 / Class 123 appears to have E51956 leading, a two-car Met-Camm is attatched to the rear. Andrew Walker.

'Trans-Pennine' class 124 unit (51956 leading) with a two-car Met-Camm on the rear passes the 'new' station at Chapeltown on the Sheffield to Leeds via Barnsley line in February 1983. I can only assume that this was during an engineering works diversion. Paul Braybrook.
