Sunday engineering work in January 1983 brought some unusual services through Barnsley, including this Liverpool-bound working with a Trans-Pennine unit (E51956 visible), seen passing more conventional motive power (which looks like a Class 114) in the Sheffield platform. Andrew Walker.
A real rarity at Barnsley in January 1983, due to diversions caused by closures on the Hope Valley route. This Trans-Pennine unit was heading for Liverpool and is seen here entering Barnsley station.
