Class 126 construction at Swindon Works (negative 5C/254) on 22 December 1958. Bodyside framework is being welded together in the jig, behind the gentlemen is a completed panel for a bodyside. To the rear of the image a centre car can be seen partly constructed. British Railways.

This is the front saloon of Sc51010, taken from the centre of the vehicle looking towards the cab end. The saloon was smoking and would have green seats, the rear saloon was non-smoking and would have light brown seats. The vehicle was an 'intermediate' Swindon Inter-City power car (DMSL) built for the Glasgow - Ayr/Girvan/Stranraer route. Note the lamp shades - they lack the silver rings normally found on DMUs but are the same shape. Compartment F (second class) of Sc59402. A mini table is fitted but there were also brackets for a larger table to be fitted (stored in the end of the vehicle). There is a Trafolyte tablet above the window noting what the paneling is - 'Tapestry Dove Grey Formica'. The seat covering would be green (with black pattern) moquette. The vehicle was an Swindon Inter-City composite trailer car (TCKL) built for the Glasgow - Ayr/Girvan/Stranraer route. The corridor of Sc59402 taken from the second class end. A swing door divided the four second class compartments from the three first class. It is wedged open in this view but was just past the exterior door - note the divider in the ceiling. The 1956/7 build for the WR/E&G line had veneer paneling along the corridor on the exterior side, this batch had Formica paneling and also had the formica panel inlays on the lower compartment side. The vehicle was an Swindon Inter-City composite trailer car (TCKL) built for the Glasgow - Ayr/Girvan/Stranraer route. The centre ('D') compartment of new Swindon Inter-City Trailer First SC59393 built for the Glasgow - Ayr/Girvan/Stranraer route. An official image (Swindon Works negative MT88) showing Inter-City trailer first Sc59393, dated April 8 1959. The corridor vehicle had forty-two seats in seven compartments, and a toilet at each end. It was listed as new to Ayr depot three days later on the 11th where it spent its whole career, other than a short spell on loan to Leith Central soon after delivery. Withdrawn in 1981, disposal would be at Snailwell. British Railways.

The vehicle had been working with the 79xxx vehicles at Leith, hence the 'A' headcodes. This type of gangway cover, common on the 79xxx vehicles, was unusual on the 5xxxx vehicles. George Bett.
