Compartment F (second class) of Sc59402. A mini table is fitted but there were also brackets for a larger table to be fitted (stored in the end of the vehicle). There is a Trafolyte tablet above the window noting what the paneling is - 'Tapestry Dove Grey Formica'. The seat covering would be green (with black pattern) moquette. The vehicle was an Swindon Inter-City composite trailer car (TCKL) built for the Glasgow - Ayr/Girvan/Stranraer route. The corridor of Sc59402 taken from the second class end. A swing door divided the four second class compartments from the three first class. It is wedged open in this view but was just past the exterior door - note the divider in the ceiling. The 1956/7 build for the WR/E&G line had veneer paneling along the corridor on the exterior side, this batch had Formica paneling and also had the formica panel inlays on the lower compartment side. Scrapper. Swindon Class 126 Trailer Sc59402 languishes at Falkland Yard (Down Side) adjacent to the beach. This is the corridor side, the compartments and lavatories were on the other side. Originally a Composite it was declassified to all Second and is shown as a TSL on the vehicle end, above the 'White Circle'. Withdrawn Swindon vehicles were stored here or at the former Co-op Coal Sidings to the south of Ayr station prior to component recovery, boarding up and onward rail transfer for scrap. Class 126 centre car SC59404 at Hunterston Ore Terminal as part of the SPS Ayrshire Wanderer railtour on 9 October 1982. The funds raised from the tour helped the group purchase this vehicle (and two others on the tour) for preservation. John Horne.
