Class 126 (set 400, 51030 closest) Elderslie Dec 1980. Living in Paisley at the time I took a day out one Saturday to film the Ayr (formerly Hamilton based) Derby's as we called them on the Paisley Canal line and Kilmacolm branch. Why I did this in December and not when the weather was better I'll never know! This is actually the junction for both the lines being photographed although the subject of this shot is an Ayr based Swindon rattling through on the main line towards Gilmour Street. Alistair Ness.

Unfortunately this would not last long as less than a year later SC51031 was involved in a tragic accident upon leaving Paisley Gilmour Street Station on the 16th April 1979 when it was involved in a head on collision with a Class 303 unit and SC51031 was cut up on site. Recently withdrawn Swindon Intercity DMUs were boarded up (due to asbestos contamination) and dumped at Falkland Yard - a short distance from their former home of Ayr Depot - prior to transport to Meyer Newman (Snailwell) for scrapping. Sc51033 was withdrawn from service 3/1982. The Swindon Diesel Preservation Society received permission to remove parts from these units for the preserved Class 126 unit as long as we did not enter the vehicles or remove parts that would affect braking. Behind are two Cravens cars, 51476 and 51474, then Class 126 centre car 59394. Andrew McConnell.
