Class 101 & 126 Largs 9 Oct 1982. The Class 126 (formed 51036/59411/51017 + 51026/59404/51043) was on the 'Ayrshire Wanderer' railtour. This tour was organised by the Swindon Preservation Society and used the same name as the previous year's BLS tour doing exactly what it said on the headboard. The class also remained in service for a bit longer than planned after the tour which had meant to see them being withdrawn from service the following day. Alistair Ness.

This tour ("Ayrshire Wanderer") was organised by the Swindon Preservation Society and used the same name as the previous year's BLS tour doing exactly what it said on the headboard. Here we see two Class 126 driving cabs coupled together at Hunterston Ore Terminal. 51043 is on the left and 51036 on the right. Alistair Ness.
126 406 has just passed Elderslie No2 Signal Box and is crossing the flyunder for the Kilmacolm Branch (the truncated G&SWR main line to Greenock Princes Pier). The unit would have hit top speed along this section and would shortly after have the brakes applied hard for the stop at Johnstone. The short, 7 minute journey from Paisley to Johnstone was one of my favourite regular DMU trips. Photo taken at the very end of Class 126 operation - probably end of November 1982. The Kilmacolm line was closed in January 1983. Andrew McConnell.
A class 126 d.m.u. northbound on the Troon avoiding line at Troon on 27-11-82. Image by A. Wilson. For nearly 25 years, these B.R. Swindon built units were the mainstay of the routes from Glasgow to Ayrshire. This view shows a train probably from Stranraer to Glasgow avoiding the Troon stop on the loop line. This was the original main line and was superseded in 1892 when the loop was built, bringing the passenger station into the town. This avoiding line closed the day after this, on 28-11-1982, in preparation for re-signalling and electrification. Here, the old line has been integrated into the Fullarton golf course, and a footpath runs along the old trackbed. Gordon Thomson.
