Screenshot taken at 38:45 to 38:56 of https://www.yfanefa.com/record/26285. 6-car train at Corbridge on the Newcastle-Carlisle line headed towards Newcastle. Might be an excursion special? One question I have is does the existence of 4 marker lamps allow a more accurate dating than the film's window of 1957 to 1961 or does it span the whole period? Screenshot form film by D.M. M51562, the 1000th diesel railcar built by Derby Works, seen in Chester Northgate on 4 January 1960. It was an a New Brighton train, this was the first day of DMUs on the services, and unusually it sits in platform 1 at Northgate normally only used by services over the CLC to Manchester Central. A Swindon Works image (negative 5CR 211) showing the Guards area of brand new Cross-Country Driving Motor Brake Composite Sc51786. I have this dated as 18 January 1960 however the vehicle was new to Kittybrewster on 12 December 1959. This was taken from the rear of the vehicle looking forwards. The layout of the van of this batch two vehicle is identical to the first batch. British Railways.

A Swindon Works image (negative 5CR 212) showing the Guards area of brand new Cross-Country Driving Motor Brake Composite Sc51786. I have this dated as 18 January 1960 however the vehicle was new to Kittybrewster on 12 December 1959. There were a few detail differences with the second batch (compare with 5CR 71). In both cases they used the same moquette pattern as the passenger saloon, this vehicle has a back for the seat on the right, the first batch didn't. This batch has three heater controls (a 'local' for each of the two on the vehicle and a guards 'through' control for the whole train). The first batch did not have the through control system and the controls would be in the cab. British Railways.

I have this dated as 18 January 1960 however the vehicle was new to Kittybrewster on 12 December 1959. This looks from the guards area to the rear of the vehicle, and is almost identical to the equivalent image from a first batch vehicle (5CR 75). British Railways.

Accident damaged E79614 at Cambridge diesel depot. It had struck a lorry on an occupation crossing between Worlington and Isleham on the Mildenhall branch while working the 7.34am ex Mildenhall on 15 January 1960. The photo is undated but will have been taken soon afterwards. The location of the accident is sometimes given as "Freckenham crossing" which I translate as being Smith's occupation crossing No. 61 just west of Worlington Golf Links Halt. The lorry, which was destroyed, had three occupants of which two died at the scene and the third subsequently. This may suggest the DMU struck the front, i.e. cab, end of the lorry. The Mildenhall branch had a blanket speed limit of 30mph so the DMU would not have been travelling any faster. Darren Kitson Collection.
