Derby Lightweight power-twin M79187 + M79192 seen on 26 August 1956 standing outside Derby Loco Works roundhouse no.2. They are recorded as new on 8 September to 9A (Longsight). Stuart Mackay Collection.

Derby Lightweight vehicles M79143 + M79656 are shown in this Derby Works image (negative 56/931) circa September 1956 presumably on the Wirksworth Branch as these often were. Neither vehicle is new, and it's a non-original pairing. M79143 is believed to have been new to Monument Lane with M79663 where they spent a few weeks before moving to Llandudno Junction. M79656 is thought to have been new to Llandudno Junction with M79135, and the new date on the end of the vehicle can be read as 14-5-56. British Railways.

A Derby Lightweight DMU in Workington station on 4 September 1956. This is not one of the original West Cumberland batch (split windscreens) - there were three of these later sets in the area at the time and this seems to be M79637 + M79118. Stuart Mackay Collection.

A two-car Derby Lightweight DMU arrives into Four Oaks station circa 1957. M79132 leads with "Birmingham via Aston" on the destination blind, it was a Monument Lane from new in March 1956 until June 1958 when it moved to Llandudno Junction. Stuart Mackay Collection.

Three two-car Derby Lightweights form an excursion from Walsall to Cambridge at Willington circa January 1957. The train reporting number is W736 and it was noted as the first DMU to run between Bedford and Sandy. FH Jardine.

A Derby Lightweight sits in the bay platform at Wickford Junction, circa early 1957 with a Southminster service. DTC E79252 is closest, presumably with DMBS E79036. They had been delivered to Norwich and transferred to Stratford in September 1956. On the left an EMU enters with a Down train, the Shenfield to Southend had just recently been electrified. British Railways.

There are at least ten Derby Lightweight vehicles visible in this view at Birmingham New Street on the 2nd March 1957, there were 16 vehicle total. They will form three services, the 5.15pm to Lichfield (6-cars), 5.20pm to Lichfield (6-cars), and the 5.42pm to Four Oaks (4-cars). The latter would have addition vehicle added from an incoming service. Michael Mensing.
