On 14 September 1953 the prototype ACV 'Flying Brick' railbus set sits on the Up goods loop opposite Cambridge station. Car No. 1 is nearest the camera. The set has returned south from a stint at Birmingham. Note there is a coal train waiting behind it; whether signalling allowed for this I don't know but the whole scene shouts "deliberately posed". Note also the oil lamp mounted sideways on. Darren Kitson Collection.
Class 116 DMU set C312 (presumably 53843 + 59355 + 53896) departs from Cadoxton station, circa 1985. It has the red V on the end but no dragon. Stuart Mackay Collection.

53532 + 54181 glides to a halt at Millbrook station whilst working the 12.10 Bletchley - Bedford train on the 10th December 1983. At this time the delightful little station had a massive station house and well kept wooden shelters, the low hight platform had a full set of attractive lights. A lone passenger contemplates the long wait for his train. Geoff Dowling.
This low wide angle picture of Snow Hill on February 1972 shows just how big the old Snow Hill was, at this stage the platform buildings were intact and even some BR(W) sign work was still in use. Towards the Colmore Row end the track has been filled and surfaced to provide car parking. In the one remaining operational bay a Gloucester RC&W single car unit waits to plough it's lonely furrow to Wolverhampton L.L. Geoff Dowling.
B.R. Derby MBS 53061 has just arrived at Birmingham Moor Street, it will form the 19.40 Birmingham to Shirley train. The other two vehicles are presumably 59613 + 53112. Moor St has grown since this was taken on 15th December 1986, the area behind the spear fence was the old carriage sidings, it is now the new buildings that form the island between platforms 2 and 3. Geoff Dowling.
Evening at Moor Street. One of Tyseley's Derby suburban 3 car dmu sets is poised to work the 20.40 hrs service along the North Warwickshire line to Shirley. 53061 is at the far end (image 31469), closest are presumably 53112 + 59613. These 1957 built units took over from steam and gave 30 years service until they were replaced by Class 150 units in 1987. Birmingham Moor St looks fairly clean and tidy in this shot taken 15th December 1986, the platforms and their infrastucture are much the same today but the clear view of the Rotunda is masked by the Selfridge building. Geoff Dowling.
Fake GWR liveried Class 117 (51410 + 59520 + 51368) is passing Newport Ebbw Jcn with a late afternoon Cardiff - Chepstow service on 26/09/1987. The DMU carries the number B430 which means it was a Bristol set. The train is passing the sad remains of Newport Ebbw Jnc diesel depot, this was a purpose built depot that catered for the numerous class 37's that were used on the South Wales coal trains but the decline of the coal industry meant that all requirements could be handled by Cardiff Canton and a few locos outstationed at Newport. Geoff Dowling.
One of Tyseley's faithful class 116 units (with a Met-Camm centre car) is leaving Langley Green in the late afternoon of 21/11/1983. In the background Langley Maltings is in full production, nearer to the camera is the now demolished station building which was just to the side of the old line to Oldbury which at the time of taking was a branch to the Albright & Wilson Chemical Works. Geoff Dowling.
A Derby Quad DMU with an Aylesbury service at Sudbury Hill. The slide process date was September 1969. Stuart Mackay Collection.
On 23 July 1975 DMU set P357 (W50918 and presumably W59538 + W50868) is seen passing through the washing plant at Mount Gould, Plymouth Laira. Stuart Mackay Collection.
A mixed livery Class 101 DMU departs from Edinburgh Waverley with a Cowdenbeath service circa 1979. Stuart Mackay Collection.
A Tyseley Class 122 in Derby station. There could be BRUTEs in the van, and parcels are being loaded or unloaded from the passenger saloon, so it could be standing in for a Class 128. There were no details with this negative, but the position of the WM logo and the large BR logo on the van end suggests this is 55012. It was on the same strip as image 31461, and likely circa 1986. Stuart Mackay Collection.
A Class 114 DMU in Derby station with a Nottingham service, date unknown. Note the person sitting on the right side cab steps looking at the Class 150. It was on the same strip as image 31462, and likely circa 1986. Stuart Mackay Collection.
A Cravens twin DMU (the DMBS was recorded as SC51488) in Muirkirk station with a Lanark service on 20 June 1964. Stuart Mackay Collection.
Class 105 DMCL has suffered some side-swipe damage when seen at Derby C&W Works sometime in 1973. Details of the incident are unknown, and it was not withdrawn until 1982 so it was presumably repaired. Stuart Mackay Collection.
