108 DMU

Class 108 DMU set 956 (presumably 52063 + 51939) arriving into Falmouth station with driver Peter Boor at the controls. Circa late 1987 / early 1988. Peter Boor.

113 DMU

The Rolls-Royce engine under a Cravens power car. It is fitted with hydraulic transmission - the Twin-Disc torque converter is on the left hand side. Prominent on this side of the engine is the fuel pump, with four flexible air lines coming from pipes behind the solebar to the throttle motor at the bottom of the fuel pump - each pipe corresponding to a position on the drivers throttle controller in the cab. Cravens.

112 DMU

The drivers compartment of DMBS M51684, taken at Darnall presumably when new in August 1959. It was one of the 100 Cravens power cars fitted with Rolls-Royce engines, and one of the 50 of these with mechanical transmission, later known as a Class 112. Delivered to Newton Heath, it would also spend time at Gorton, Accrington and Cricklewood before withdrawal in 1968 after just over nine years in service. Cravens.

101 DMU

I think the DMU on this Swansea to Shrewsbury service had failed en-route, and it is seen here in Shrewsbury after arriving behind 25 265 on the 24th of May 1986. A comment by Adrian Nicolls (on flickr): "Looking at the clock which appears to show 14.30 and based on your caption comment. Its the 09.38 ex Swansea due Shrewsbury at 13.49 nothing ties in off the Cambrian line so looks very likely for the Central Wales line train. Canton depot had 7 two-car Met-Cam sets for west Wales workings back then numbered C801 - C807." The KDH Archive.

108 DMU

Black F 45409 of Patricroft is arriving at Chester with a down passenger service on the 22nd of July 1963. The (blue square) Derby Lighhtweight vehicle on the left appears to be M50627 which was allocated to Chester at the time. The KDH Archive.

101 DMU

Class 101 Dysart (near Kirkcaldy) with an Edinburgh-Dundee service, April 1972. This was a good vantage point to watch trains with a great view across the Firth of Forth but you can’t stand here now as you’d be in someone’s front garden! The parish church of my dad’s family St Serfs is in the background. Unfortunately for most of the day you are looking east and south into the light and trains are always in shadow. Alistair Ness.

101 DMU

An Edinburgh-Kirkcaldy service formed of a three-car Class 101 DMU heads north from Dalmeny station. It is changing lines, probably for engineering work on the Forth Bridge. Alistair Ness.

101 DMU

A three-car Class 101 DMU heads north with an Edinburgh Waverley to Kirkcaldy service at Dalmeny in March 1972. The left hand buildings on the up platform have long since been removed. Alistair Ness.

101 DMU

A three-car Class 101 DMU at the closed Thornton Junction station in March 1972. Closed on 6 October 1969, two and a half years later not much had changed except for the weeds of course. If you look closely you can see that the footbridge no longer has any steps. 13 year old boys can sometimes be very foolish! But at least I took my camera with me! Alistair Ness.

100 DMU

Class 100 DMBS Sc50342 on Haymarket depot in June 1972. It would remain in green for at least another year and was the final green DMU vehicle in passenger service (not including the later retro versions!). Alistair Ness.

107 DMU

A Class 107 leads a six-car DMU formation into Glasgow Central on 16 October 1971. Alistair Ness.

101 DMU

A three-car Class 101 Met-Camm DMU in Kirkcaldy station in September 1971. With the driver reading his newspaper this is likely a Kirkcaldy-Edinburgh service rather than a Dundee-Edinburgh working. Alistair Ness.
